About the Rhondda Appeals Committee

The committee has been in existence for over 35 years following a request by the Boys' Clubs of Wales to raise funds on a one off basis for a specific local purpose. The committee proved so successful that it was decided to continue with fundraising even after that initial target was quickly met!

Members of this voluntary organisation are drawn from all walks of life in the community and the committee currently comprises: Wayne Thomas, Selwyn Jones, Paul Young, Gordon Evans, John Watts, Edward Blayney, Douglas Beartup, Robert Moore & Tom White. Our President is the well known broadcaster Dewi Griffiths. Our thanks go to all who have contributed to the raising of over £150,000 over the years.

Our most long standing, continuing event is the Sports Personality Dinner & Award Ceremony about which you can read more HERE. This event was first held in 1975 and past winners from that date are Mal Evans, John Bevan, Alun Evans, Margaret Pomeroy, Clive Thomas, Dewi Griffiths, Tony Lewis, Alan Curtis, Terry Parsons, Neale Doughty, Ceri Jones, Philip Bowen, Desmond Barnett, Geraint Williams, Michael Griffiths, Tony Wynne, Paul Knight, Gail Davies, Peter Davies, Ceri Hughes, Richie Burnett, Nigel Bezani, Steve Edwards, Ryan Jenkins, Alvin Powell, Carys Parry, Nyree Lewis, Scott Young, Jane Ludlow, Rhondda Rebels, Robert Page, Non Evans, Chris Jones, Rhondda Schools under 15 Rugby XV and Lee Beech. Many of these, we are proud to say, are household names on a national and international level.
